2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine (Part 2)

Well, I guess there are two alternatives, depending on the manner and source of his removal.

  1. He is removed by factions frustrated at Russia’s military failures, who escalate. Given how apparently ill-organised the military is, escalation options may be very worrying for the rest of us.
  2. He is removed by factions sick of his prosecution of a false war and the damage it is doing to the Russian economy, its people, and its reputation, and they get out of Ukraine and seek a new settlement/rapprochement with the West.

Of course, that’s a simplistic analysis and - this is Russia after all - whatever happens is likely to be weirder and more perverse than we might imagine.

Tucker Carlson yet again ignores the evidence right in front of him.

“If you are Vladimir Putin, you would have to be a suicidal moron to blow up your own energy pipeline,” he claimed.

Which part of Putin actually being a “suicidal moron” does the fuckwit not get?

Carlson is no different than Father Coughlin, Lindbergh, Robert McCormick, Gerald Nye, Burton Wheeler, and the other American enablers of fascism associated with the original America First movement of the 1930s.

I’m sure Swanson also shares their thinly veiled anti-Semitism. Speaking of which, Moscow’s chief rabbi of almost 30 years Pinchas Goldschmidt has seen the writing on the Kremlin wall.

As an earlier post discussed, there’s a shadow war going on between the military high command, the siloviki (FSB and other security police, plus cultural shills in the media and the Orthodox Church), and the warlords (e.g. the thug in charge of Chechnya). The fascist mercenaries of Wagner Group would naturally gravitate toward the third group in attacking the first one. Since the GRU seems to favour car bombings as their assassination method of choice, I would assume that Prigozhin and Kadyrov are very careful every time they enter a vehicle.

All these thugs - with machine guns…

I do fear that the thugs will be next in power. Putin is a thug, but managed to disguise it much of the time (in the past). These guys are overt thugs, proud to be thugs, seeking more opportunities for brutal thuggery, and they don’t care if it is Ukrainians or Russian they inflict their thuggery on.

It is very hard to put the thuggery genie back in the bottle once it is out and proud.

Sadly, the best case scenario if Putin is deposed or dies is a military junta. Whichever of the three groups would come out on top, though, it’s bad news for the Russian people and no guarantee of an end to this war or an end to the delusion that the decadent West is scheming against them.

I mean, the problem with the USSR was never that they were cruel totalitarians, it was that they didn’t indulge in letting the investor class be the ones to profit from it. Putin’s Russia has fixed that one key mistake.

The US and its allies would destroy Russia’s troops and equipment in Ukraine – as well as sink its Black sea fleet – if Russian president Vladimir Putin uses nuclear weapons in the country, former CIA director and retired four-star army general David Petraeus warned on Sunday.
