China likely dethroned Japan as world’s top auto exporter in 2023: China group
Ah, yes, the old “well, they weren’t true believers to begin with, so we’re better off without them!” argument. A well known variation of the sour grapes excuse some tell themselves to justify their inability to achieve something, in this case trying to claim that losing members makes the group stronger.
It’s like losing muscle mass and claiming it’s making you lean and mean instead of scrawny and pissed off.
This is really the first drone war.
Right now, regarding drones, we’re in the same territory as WWI airplanes were: a recent technological development that had been turning from a curious novelty into something useful, and is now being used for military purposes, with a whole new way of warfare being invented as we go.
Even if we ignore the moral and humanitarian issues, or the geographic and strategic issues, there’s a good reason why every significant military in the world is paying close attention to the war in Ukraine: it’s the first major, peer-to-peer (or as close as we get) war in a long time. Everyone wants to see what really happens when you throw modern tanks against prepared infantry with anti-tank missiles, (reasonably modern) air forces against modern air defense networks and shoulder-launched SAMs sprinkled through ground forces, artillery against artillery and field fortifications and everything else… and drones.
Military tacticians and strategists are going to be going over this war with a fine comb for decades, honing old tactics and doctrines, and coming up with entirely new ones, based on the evidence of this war.
