Am I the only one who thinks they put the kids to bed and then went to have sex? Which would also probably explain why they didn’t hear them leave.

No, it’s not just @IronEdithKidd . I’d guess that in fact, the people who work 9-5 actually make up something of a minority of people working for a living. Retail is rarely 9-5. Restaurant work is rarely 9-5. College professor is often not 9-5. Second and third shift factory work. People who drive any number of vehicles for a living. Police, firefighters, detectives, nurses, doctors, orderlies. Radio stations, as you noted. Small business owners, as noted by @Michael_R_Smith. Writers, artists, poets. Journalists.
