Okay, obviously what she did was dangerous and unwise, but… damn, is that kid going to be a force to be reckoned with as an adult.
She wanted an outcome. So all on her own, she created a plan, located the resources she needed, executed the plan, and got the outcome she wanted.
Someone get that kid into a political science class, stat.
News story said she also had $400 cash on her. She was ready for a big adventure.
Dangerous, but also more than a little impressive.
Was it at least a decaf?
You don’t learn how to drive an SUV by 8 years old drinking decaf. Brings to mind that sign you see in numerous coffee shops and cafe’s:
Where’s her damn puppy Starbucks!?
Was that meant as punishment for the careless parents?
Edit: curse you, @mallyboon !
She may have broken the rules, but that seems like a harsh punishment.
Maybe our 8-year old got a good run up?
She probably used a couple of ‘puppy ramps’.
This kid’s going places.
Also, obligatory:
Translation; the child in question is White.
Looks like a straight line, to me. Easy peasy.
Years back, a then 12-year-old cousin of mine drove alone from Queens to Hoboken, New Jersey to visit another family member. He got there using my Mom’s new Lexus SUV. She was visiting one of her brothers when the vehicle was ‘borrowed’. No one knew that he could drive, or how he successfully made his way there on what would have been a complicated route. No Nav yet in that Lexus then.
Reminds me of my brother, he would often sneak out at the age of 13 and borrow the car and drive up and down our alley and got a good feel for it.
That came to an end though when one day our mom called home to get picked up 'cause our other car had broken down. My dad and I walked out to the driveway to find there was a certain lack of a vehicles present! No cell phones at the time either…
5 or so minutes later he came casually cruising in to get quite the shock, the pale look on his face as he saw us standing there at the top of the drive was priceless!
The farthest he went though was like a 15 mile drive to the next biggest town on some other trip! Quite gutsy!
Wow, from Bedford to Aurora/Bainbridge! There has to be a closer Starbucks.
Also, now I’ll have to keep a closer eye on my rearview mirror for really short drivers.
I was driving vehicles around our rural property (dirt paths and fields, nothing that would fall under DOT rules) when I was that age, including motorcycles, trucks, the occasional dune buggy, tractors, and on one instance a bulldozer. (Because the adults didn’t think I could actually start it up, let along drive it!) I didn’t try to go into town for a burger (because no coffee shops) and I kind of regret that!
Hopefully she’s not driving 13 miles for a decaf Frappuccino! If you’re going to go, go big!
If/when actual self driving cars become a thing, I wonder if this will become a really common story.
