My personal theory: Trump has spent his entire life being obsessed with the stock market. I think heās pushing these tariffs and watching the market closely, with the hope to make a big China deal during the election cycle to āsave us from recessionā and look like a brilliant dealmaker.

I also think that youāve completely captured the depth of his thinking on the matter: A will lead to B which will lead to C and then Big Donnie will swoop in, gather up the stock market in his giant hands and save us all from ruin.
If Trump ever had even the barest presentiment of a nuanced thought, he would certainly have had it cut from his body, pulverized to an even consistency, and burned until all that was left was a fine, gold ash. Ersatz, natch.
