Well, he did say “They let you do it…”
Cue the “but, Obama!” apologists.
What a shitbag.
Sure, but the same is true of any Dem who wants to get all that far, especially to Prez and Vice Prez. None who hope seriously to become either could get away with even acknowledging American imperialism, genocide, pervasive institutional racism, and more. Let alone naming and suggesting that the country do anything about them.
Speaking of genocide…
Oh for fuck sake.
“You train someone to go fight and kill the enemy. Then they go kill the enemy the way someone doesn’t like, and then we put them in jail or we throw the book at them.”
And people say autonomous fighting vehicles are a danger.
I hope our soldiers are trained to do more than just kill.

Will Black History Month become Southern Noble Cause History Month?
There are fewer self-identified Democrats and Republicans today than there were in 2016 and cable news viewership has declined across the board over the same period, so in a sense you’re right — there’s a dwindling pool of people who buy Fox News’ fair and balanced agitprop. That said, Fox News completely owns cable news, so while the pool may be smaller, but the people in it are hardcore.
I do think they’re getting away with it. Politicians of both stripes have always been a mendacious bunch (see @anon15383236 above), but the current crop is taking it to new lows. They’re not content anymore with spinning or shading facts to support policy, instead they’re attempting the wholesale replacement of the world with an internally consistent, hermetically packaged product that has no points of continuity with reality. And even if the number of true believers has shrunk, that bubble still contains an enormous swathe of the electorate, all of them completely submerged in conservative solipsism. That’s a huge win for the GOP.
Is the sky blue? How many lights do you see?

Scaramucci predicted that Senate Republicans would abandon Trump when support for impeachment and removal passed 60%.
“Assuming that [Senate Majority Leader] Mitch McConnell has one more term left as a ‘senator,’ I don’t think he’s going to want to be in the minority,” Scaramucci said. “I think he will jettison President Trump the minute those differentials start to happen. And they are moving, they’ve moved 6 points in the last month.”
That number will only rise as the impeachment process moves into public hearings.
“And I think the bad news is yet to come for the president,” Scaramucci said. ”We’re just getting started.”
That’ll lead to another swing in the numbers.
“When this thing gets into the low 60s,” he said, whistling for emphasis, “these guys are gone.”
The problem with that is that approval ratings hover around the same 40ish percent levels. It recently was as low as 40.7, and is ticking back up again.
Maybe Mooch is talking about Republican polls, which hover around 70-79% approval? Trump likes to claim his approval rating amongst the GOP is 94 to 96%, which is a bonkers lie.
He’s talking about polls showing support for impeachment and removal, which are currently at 49% for, 47% against.
Before those hearings (or anything else reality-based) changes the opinion on the 40% they have to know about them, and not the fact-stripped, right-spun version that may or may not appear on Faux News, and that is just unlikely to happen.
He would be outraged (rightfully) if an American soldier was taken prisoner, was in the hospital being treated for injuries, and an adversary just walked up and slit the prisoner’s throat, just to test out a new, non-issue knife.
Add on to that, this prisoner was a 15 year-old boy.
