A list of Steve King's worst remarks: Racist, shocking, and just plain stupid

And white people, too. Why do those socialists hate whitey? /s

My job was technically federal but my salary was corporate so kind of a combination of both. Yay! All the douchebaggery!

My wife was laid off for six months, but at the end of it she did find a new job, and it was better than the old one. There’s hope.

It is rather amazing to me that the mainstream media/culture won’t call someone racist, no matter how many racist things they say, so long as a) they don’t use the n-word, and/or b) they don’t actually call themselves a racist. King blew his 16+ year track record of publicly racist statements without getting called on it by coming out and admitting he’s a racist, yet the dynamic is still working in his favor because it’s being treated as if this latest statement was the first indication of his racism… The statements made in sarcasm here are the real, actual position the Republican party as a whole is literally taking.

Looking through King quotes recently, there was one where he explicitly distinguished between “white Americans” and “socialists.” I read that one and just sat there for a minute boggled, trying to make sense of it, until I finally decided I didn’t want to know what was going on in his head.

And in the case of A, if they faux-grovel and shampologize while saying it was a slip of a tongue, they’re STILL not racist. And in the case of B) (ie Richard Spencer) they soft peddle that shit, and talk about how nice his fucking suit is…

Maybe he was going off some Baldwin there, in differentiating allies with people who saw themselves primarily by their racial category? At some point, Baldwin noted that “if you think you’re white, I can’t talk to you.” I take that to mean that Baldwin (and King) understood race as a construct and people who identify specifically as white (which as Nell Painter showed was a historical moving target) had a particular world view that was built on racist views. It’s the same reason why when Carmichael kicked the white members out of SNCC he told them to go educate their own communities about race, because to get to a society where everyone gets a fair shake, it’s not that we need to only have black people push for more inclusion, but we need to have the very people the society was built to privilege dismantle that privilege… maybe that’s what he meant?

But how do we know for sure that he’s a racist?

I mean, yeah, sure; he says things that are totally racist, all the time.

And so what if he’s engaged in racist behavior, on a regular basis for decades?

That doesn’t ‘prove’ a thing!

Yep, only if they “meant” it, does it count.

Yeah, the recent (and seemingly still not dead) media trend: “He’s a racist/fascist, but he’s such a well dressed, polite racist/fascist!”

Yeah… yeah, I’m sure that was it.

I wonder if class also plays into that. The stereotypical racist is a disenfranchised poor rural white with a whiskey still. So basically to me these comments are like “ok he’s racist but he’s still upper class and can we just appreciate how great that is…” God I hate those kinds of rationalizations. Racism is sooo much better when it’s middle class or higher. /s

Looks like his digital butt plug kicked into total titillation mode. He probably had just heard of another cop killing a kid of color. Festering piece of animated shit who keeps getting voted into office. Boy Iowa, you sure know how to pick 'em

Yeah, the class thing comes into it, but also, I think, “Hey, he can discuss his plans for ethnic cleansing without using any slurs, so I can pretend it’s just this neutral policy position, not hate! (And can justify its appeal to me…)”

It’s racist people who think that Steve King is racist. It’s so obvious.

I skimmed the title and thought at first is was talking about Stephen King, and thought to myself “noooo, I though he was nice :(”.
Then I re-read.

He lived in this tiny central South Carolina community, which is 90% black, and former classmates said he had many African American friends. But they also said he made racist jokes.

Who was this contradiction who had many black friends? Dylan Roof!

Even when you post your racist manifesto before shooting up a black church we need to wonder whether you were really, really racist.

I’ve been following this racist’s remarks and interviews for a while now, and I always wondered how he got re-elected all the time. My conclusion was that Iowa was racist as hell to put up with him. I think I’m glad to finally find out that there are some folks re-examining their politicians.

Alex Nowrasteh, a senior immigration policy analyst at the Cato Institute, a Libertarian think-tank, called the number nonsense, and pointed to a June 22 Washington Post article about the claim.

Back in June, President Donald Trump said that at least 63,000 Americans had been killed since 9/11. But, the Post reports, the stat dates back to a 2005 blog post written by Rep. Steve King, who “seems to have basically made the number up … and, since there isn’t good data on the number of crimes committed by people who immigrated illegally, it was embraced by those looking to put a number to it.”
