I love this guy!
“…subpoenas reportedly seek information on loan applications, mortgages, and lines of credit, among other transactions, involving Trump International Hotel in Washington, the Trump National Doral outside Miami, and the Trump International Hotel and Tower in Chicago.”
Collective action works:
I suppose the saying “like a fox in a henhouse” is assuming rather fewer hens.
Something that may be of interest to our UK folks:
This could get interesting…
Wow (I guess)! Up to 12!
Better that it squeaked by with just a few votes, than to have failed completely; thereby allowing 45 to continue to shit all over all the other aspects of US government unchecked.
They will not overturn the expected veto, but on principle, it is a very important vote. So is the unanimous vote to release the Mueller report in the House. Haven’t seen him melt down over that one yet, but I am sure it is coming. Of course, it did not go anywhere either.
Because SPLC but, WTF
“As a civil rights organization, the SPLC is committed to ensuring that the conduct of our staff reflects the mission of the organization and the values we hope to instill in the world,” President Richard Cohen said in a statement. “When one of our own fails to meet those standards, no matter his or her role in the organization, we take it seriously and must take appropriate action.”
The buried lede here is that the House passed something unanimously. When was the last time that happened?
This might be staged, but it’s still fun to watch…
That right there is the perfect illustration of why it’s so hard to move the needle leftward in the US.
Too many people have been brought up on the idea that there are only two ideologies: freedom=capitalism, totalitarianism=communism. To them all totalitarianism is communism; the words are interchangeable. They have no idea what communism really is, just that they are supposed to fear and hate it.
After all, under no real definition of the term is Trump communist. But he is a totalitarian and media control is a totalitarian move hence the “delusional communist.”
Everyone thinks of mass surveillance whenever Nineteen Eighty-Four is mentioned, but Newspeak was another key part. The whole point of Newspeak was to make people unable to express certain concepts that could cause revolution against the state. This is why for some people freedom=capitalism and totalitarianism=communism and they can’t see the world any other way.
I have seen some people on the BBS (I will not name names) do that whenever I mention libertarian socialism or anarcho-communism, they don’t understand that they are left wing philosophies that have a 200 year history (libertarian capitalism and Ayn-cap are only about 50-100 years old) and can only relate to it as an oxymoron. Their mental dictionaries do not contain the correct definitions to understand the concepts, even as libertarian socialist regions exist in the world today.
That’s a bipartisan thing.
Centrist Democratic Twitter has been absolutely awash in recycled Cold War anticommunist propaganda from the moment Trump was elected.
