Then again, who would have thought Dee Snider could eviscerate an entire congressional committee, but:
Pssst! Don’t forget the taco trucks on every corner.
Canadian, but worth keeping in mind with Trump and the tsunami of sewage behind him. e.g. Project Blitz.
This made my whole damned Solar!:
I re-purposed my “Today in Scientology” stuff that posts daily to Usenet group alt.religion.scientology to dump Canadian and world dark-right articles of this day to can.politics and ont.politics. (Search engines still pick those up, and I amp them with the keywords field. I might take it to Twitter later…)
One right-posters seems to be disgruntled and asked “Are you a registered third party?” Bwahahaha!

Yep. We should liberate the Bible Belt like we tried to liberate Iraq. Only we’ll actually do it, because they have nothing in the way of natural resources that we want or need. It’ll be a purely humanitarian mission, for the first time in nearly forever, because we’re the side that doesn’t dick people over simply because we can.
So, Portland then.
Green Shirt Guy:
“You’re in violation […] being a jackass.”
Also I have to say it; that protester looks mighty “swarthy” along with all that dark hair, she might just want to be wary of ICE raids her damn self.
Our new hero!
Perhaps. As hard as it sometimes seems that Ann Arbor is trying to be Portland, it fails by about 200% on food trucks.
Yeah, but Ann Arbor has Portland beat when it comes to dive bars. U of M is about the snootiest state college in the land, but AA has such a great dive bar scene.
Used to. The 8-ball, Pig, Goodtime Charlie’s and Rick’s still exist, but that’s about it. Micro-breweries and over-priced restaurants are about the only things around. If you haven’t visited anytime in the last 5-10 years, it’s a very different town than it was.
I nearly moved there a couple years ago. The lack of dive bars was disquieting.
Sorry. The town has been targeted by out-of-town developers as a place where people have more money than brains, and the State hasn’t figured out that Chinese/Russian nationals are laundering money with $1 and $2M condos in a state with a median home price of under $200k. Result: tons of re-development, and erasure of the things that used to make the insufferable student population somewhat bearable.
There’s still A2’s red-headed cousin, Ypsilanti. Still a couple dive bars, and you can still get a house in a nice neighborhood for less than $250k. Plus, Tower of Power!
Oh, good. At least one doesn’t have to go as far as Plymouth to go to a decent dive bar.
ETA: I had my fishing tackle box stolen in Ypsi. I’m still bitter.
Didn’t start with Trump, of course
Yeah, but it’s Ypsilanti.
Indeed, fear of and loathing for a black president was a huge factor too. It seems extremely plausible that counterterrorism agencies also contained (and still contain) workers who had that fear and loathing, and thus looked the other way, at best, when it came to violent and potentially violent white nationalism. Yes, the recent (in historical terms) resurgence certainly didn’t start when Trump and the Republicans stole another election.
