Over the past few months, Javier Valdes and his organization Make the Road have trained families how to be ready if ICE agents arrive at their door.
“Part of it is about having a conversation ahead of time with your sister, your brother, your aunt, or your grandparent, or your neighbor: ‘Will you take on the responsibility for watching my children if I get taken away?,’” Valdes said. “It is, of course, the hardest conversation.”
More from BAA:
As I’ve been saying: violence against the state is usually counterproductive and futile.
No property destruction is necessary or desired, ditto for assaulting the police.
But there does need to be a willingness to peacefully defy police authority. And an understanding that the right is going to paint all protest as violent no matter how peacefully it is done.
That’s amazing.
Oh wow.
When an ex-Presidente of Mexico speaks for you more than the current occupier of the Oval Office.
*dies laughing
So much awesome.
Thanks for sharing this.
Yeah I LOLd hard. They did great work.
One of so many reasons to boycott the NFL.
I’m wondering if there is a couple of things going on… that yes, less people are out on the street, but maybe also there is less coverage from the media on protests that are going on? Maybe there is more going on, but it’s not getting the same media focus, because (among other things) of the Russia coverage, general political stuff, and the disasters are taking the air waves?
That being said, I don’t think he’s wrong to mention it.
See also this NPR interview (which is how I heard of it): NFL Wide Receiver Anquan Boldin Retires To Focus On Activism : NPR
Boldin supports Kaepernick’s activism, saying his protests have gained him more and more support from fans. “For those that really want change, I think they’ll listen to [his] message and they’ll take it to heart.”
I’m doubly screwed on that: apart from the many other reasons to boycott, the team I used to follow was the New England Patriots.
These days, I would happily watch a lengthy compilation of Brady getting sacked, were it not for the boycott.
Lovely. (/s)
All the more reason to bring those bastards down before they get fully tooled up.
A modest proposal:
People who catch a cold must be given reading material claiming that life begins at infection. They must also endure a 72-hour waiting period between their initial appointment and taking any remedies, including vitamin-C, Tylenol or chicken soup.
Can it handle dazzle makeup?
