Further legitimizing ISIS. Great work!
Which means people like Canadaās Immigration & Refugees minister and Mo Farah are now banned from entering the US.
I hope that number isnāt accurate
Seems reasonable, but Iād be more concerned about the ones who are actually trying to get here.
Still bonkers, will be interesting to see if it lasts past Tuesday.
I just posted this in the Round Up of Resistance thread, but I think itās worth repeating:
No, it didnāt even last the weekend.
Jesus H. Just when I think it canāt get any worse, this happens.
Fta:
(Thereās a transcript so you donāt need to watch the video)
Technically it is still being mostly enforced. As far as I can tell only people already in transit to the United States or currently detained here under the ban are affected. It is still in effect as a ban.
I am surprised there isnāt a line formed for that already.
How about a warningā¦ I almost choked on the banana bread I was eating.
Hmm. Ahead of SCOTUS nom? This is something the Dems could actually filibuster. I trust theyāll apply the Garland doctrine and refuse to confirm anyone, since Trump has no mandate?
Quick, someone check the constitution and see if all the amendments are still there!!!
I do think so, yes. Bannon is in power, and increasingly so. Donald Trump is not coherent. Heck, heās almost imbecile! Yet he has been winning this fight for months and months. Now heās been elected president and sworn in. How is this even possible? Because Trump is a great strategist? Because Trump knows how to talk to a populace he has absolutely zero connection with? Because Trump knows how to use big data and targeted [fake news] advertising, to turn a classically tied election in the last two/three weeks?
No. Obviously no!
Look at Bannon. Here is a man who is focused and very, very cynical about achieving his vision. And his vision appears to be to completely reshape society. This man is willing and prepared to play any human configuration and political constellation he encounters in this end game of his. (I do actually do think that once you throw all ethical constraints overboard this becomes rather shockingly easy to do.) Thatās what I see in Bannonās eyes: a man not bound by anything but his extremely cynical world view. Manipulating the republican establishment politicians? Easier than anyone would be willing to admit. It just takes the promise of executive power and shrewd maneuvering. Power attracts the corruptibleā¦ the problems almost solve themselves!
To the typical contemporary republican politician Trump represents the irresistible promise of power. Especially since Trumpās personality will always try to appease his perceived āpeersā! And Trump is so obviously corrupt, that the prospect of profit is very, very tangible. Next, BannonTrump just implements some items on the most cooperative politiciansā wishlist and ignores all others, and there you go. VoilĆ , now they are falling over themselves to do BannonTrumps bidding.
From the outside of course it almost looks like politics as usual. Appearances are maintained. Rhetoric is adjusted to circumstances (and often weirdly). The administrationās policy may look like a hodgepodge of priorities. It isnāt really. There is a terrifying underlying thread. The thread is Bannonās totalitarianism.
Yes Mindysan, dear. I do think so. But maybe we can hope Iām wrong, and everything I wrote here is totally nuts and/or bananas. Maybe I should not have read all those Dune novels when I was younger. On the other hand itās probably even worse. Bannon isnāt just a singular āevilā individual. Itās likely that heās backed by a group of very conservative, very rich individuals who have absolutely no interest whatsoever in society achieving (socialist) utopia. Basically what we are witnessing is their āwarā against society.
dear???
I could use a unicorn right now.
Edit: Someone made this. And itās terrifying. Itās also rather exactly what I was talking about.
