There’s a reason it’s bread and circus, not bread or circus. Take away the circus and people lose their shit.
The Texas legislature was in an uproar about UT leaving the Big12. They filed bills to try to stop it.
I can hear the whining and dogwhistles increasing in volume from here.
Yep. And in Texas, the football is the biggest circus.
Yes, but what about when bread is socialism and the “bread” part of the “bread and circuses” is vague statements about “rising tides lift all boats” and “the economy” and “lower taxes!”, but somehow never any actual bread?
Gurl…
I already would never consider it, because I dont do cold weather, period.
BUT FOUR FUCKING TIMES HIGHER THAN OTHERS STATES?!?!
How I loathe that station, with a fiery passion…
Just wait until there is no ‘bread’ to take away.
I always thought it would be funny to do a MST3K type show, but for Lifetime/Hallmark movies…
I might actually watch that, but it really seems like the jokes would really write themselves. Both channels are as much trash as the “shopping” channels.
Isn’t that true for MST3K, though?
Only if they can also pretend to kill the film makers at the end of each ep.
That shit is truly an abomination.
Yeesh.
Womp womp, too late.
It’s cold, dark, and not for everyone but the access to the outdoors is a-ma-zing. Also, jobs in medicine are plentiful and pay well (both Mr. Gremlin and I are in the field).
That having been said, there are many things that make me absolutely LIVID and feel more than a little bad for living up here. The rage has made me a lot more proactive with voting in local elections etc., so that’s a good thing…
I guess I would have probably picked Alaska for the highest women-murdered-by-men rate based purely on the gender ratio, but four times higher than the next runner up? Yikes.
I’ve heard the phrase “the odds are good, but the goods are odd” when it comes to women looking for men in Alaska. But given the murder rate the word “odd” doesn’t really cover it.
I’m slowly working my way through “Maid” (so triggering, I can only do 5-10 minutes at a stretch), but there was something that started bugging me, and I’ve just read an article that puts it into words: the myth of the perfect mother.
It’s set in Washington State, but the main character grew up in Alaska.
Sounds like my kinda place.
Don Young has got to go. But he’s been US Representative since 1973, so he’s set, no matter how horrible he is.
