A thread of our own- misogyny (Part 1)

I’m putting this here because what they are now calling a “feud” was a man in a position of power using his influence to ruin a woman’s career and reputation. That she successfully fought back against it and this public apology hopefully mean he and others will atone for all the harm they caused:

Interesting, so she subscribes to the Genesis 2 version of creation, rather than the Genesis 1 where "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them . God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

If only they had a consistent story, this would be much easier.

There was a medieval theory which tried to make sense of Gen 1:27, given that there was only one God (and they didn’t know about textural criticism and the J vs E sources, or any of the theories of the development of monotheism from polytheism via henotheism and monolatry in early Israel).

That theory was that if there’s only one god, and God created man in his image, and God created man(kind) as male and female, then that might be explained if Adam was themself both male and female. They envisioned that Adam was a hermaphroditic giant, with four legs, four arms, two faces, and both sets of genitals, in the form of two people joined back to back. Then God split this primordial human into two beings, one male, one female.

This theory makes as much sense as anything about ribs and snakes, and also provides an explanation for LGBT and I. (That is, the split wasn’t perfect, and every person contains elements of both male and female, to differing degrees, whether through attraction, identity, or biology. According to this theory, LGBTI is not just normal, it’s to be expected.)

It’s been done before.

“In his dialogue The Symposium, Plato has Aristophanes present a story about soulmates. Aristophanes states that humans originally had four arms, four legs, and a single head made of two faces. He continues that there were three genders: man, woman and the “Androgynous”. Each with two sets of genitalia with the Androgynous having both male and female genitalia. The men were children of the sun, the women were children of the earth and the Androgynous were children of the moon, which was born of the sun and earth. It is said that humans had great strength at the time and threatened to conquer the gods. The gods were then faced with the prospect of destroying the humans with lightning as they had done with the Titans but then they would lose the tributes given to the gods by humans. Zeus developed a creative solution by splitting humans in half as punishment for humanity’s pride and doubling the number of humans who would give tribute to the gods. These split humans were in utter misery to the point where they would not eat and would perish so Apollo had sewn them up and reconstituted their bodies with the navel being the only remnant harkening back to their original form. Each human would then only have one set of genitalia and would forever long for his/her other half; the other half of his/her soul. It is said that when the two find each other, there is an unspoken understanding of one another, that they feel unified and would lie with each other in unity and would know no greater joy than that.“

I was gonna say I thought that came from Plato’s Symposium rather than anything stemming from the Bible… I’m sure the idea got passed around during the Middle Ages through Monastic scriptoriums though.

In a new interview with Stereogum , the “Who Will Save Your Soul” artist explained that the reason she was living there was that she refused to have sex with her boss.

“My whole career, the slant that the media gave it was through a really, I dare say, patriarchal lens,” the Masked Singer winner said. “You think of my origin story, right? The whole world knows I lived in my car — they think because I was fighting for my dream of music. That is an absolute misrepresentation of what happened.”

“I refused to be leveraged and he wouldn’t give me my paycheck and I couldn’t pay my rent and I started living in my car,” she said. “And then my car got stolen and I was homeless because of that, because I wouldn’t bang a boss.”

Glad that she’s able to share this and correct the story, but sickened by the entire situation.

Also, is this what they’re calling it now? :grimacing:

I was just looking at some “best TV evar!” listicle and lo-and-behold, virtually no women involved except as a supporting character, especially in the top 10 or so.
