A thread of our own- misogyny (Part 1)

I’m not a physician

Nope, you are not. Now shut up.

It gets better:

Incidentally, given Dean’s shocking “not a physician” status, his Democratic challenger, Jim Duffee, is a retired pediatrician, who has thoughts on Dean’s stunning ignorance. “Although most pregnancies are joyous occasions, pregnancy is a dangerous time for women,” Duffee told the newspaper. He further pointed out that, as all research has indicated, “maternal mortality will increase with the abortion ban.” Duffee continued, “If a healthy young woman comes in, her fetus is at 18 weeks, and her water breaks, that fetus is unsalvageable. It will not survive. Currently, the only way to save her life is to wait until she’s deathly ill.”

We are legion! Fear us!

Ignoring that elephant shitting in the corner of the room… OK, so say for the sake of argument that it is obesity and lifestyle.

Cool. Cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool.

Is he proposing doing something about healthy food deserts? Regulating sugar and harmful additives? Improving health education? Free, nutritious, pleasant lunches in schools (for childhood nutrition for healthier young adults, and to teach kids that “healthy food” doesn’t have to mean brown slop and the cheapest brand of almost expired milk and all the kale you can choke down.) Is he talking about social services to address the poverty of pregnant women, to protect them from abusive relationships, to keep them out of the prison funnel?

Is he, assuming that it actually is “obesity and lifestyle” which is such a danger to pregnant people’s lives in his state more than anywhere else, going to do anything about that?

Yeah, didn’t think so.

The business “had no idea” about the harassment

Why do I somehow doubt the veracity of this statement?

You can bet her coworkers knew, but probably not HR. HR wouldn’t want to know; their primary function is protecting the business, their secondary function is to protect HR.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Titus Burgess GIF by NETFLIX

True… the question is if she made a complaint and they buried it… or if she knew that and did not make a complaint. Either way, I’m positive that someone at that company knew about what was happening and dismissed it… because that shit happens all the time.

Wow. Just wow. A known abuser of women to be the first man to get a segment in that show. What a win for diversity!

I still can’t believe so many people believe he’s not an abusive POS.

It’s really disappointing that Rhianna is doing this, too.

“Yellin’ at Yellen: Gender Bias in the Federal Reserve Congressional Hearings”

Researchers measured how often Yellen was interrupted or talked over or yelled at in comparison to her male predecessors/successor when they came to give testimony to the same legislators.

Fun fact: Congressmen with daughters were less rude to Yellen than their male colleagues with no daughters.

But yes, no surprise:

The scale of the change in behaviour from legislators was significant: the same legislator was 14 percentage points more likely to interrupt Yellen in 2014 as they were to interrupt Ben Bernanke (her male predecessor) in 2013 and they were 18 percentage points less likely to interrupt Jay Powell (her male successor) in 2018 than Yellen in 2017.
