A thread of our own- misogyny (Part 1)

FTFY.

White Supremacist, incel, religiously motivated. It’s all the same.

They are if they’re black. If they’re white, they’re considered “boys” capable of only youthful indiscretions until they’re like 50.

Nine months ago, two police officers were accused of forcing transgender women to have sex with them by threatening to take them to jail if the women didn’t comply. Now one of them has pled guilty – to “sexual solicitation” of a prostitute.

Officer Ian G Lucas from the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s office and an unnamed officer from the Washington DC police force have been accused by multiple women of sexual assault. The officers allegedly would target transgender prostitutes and threaten to to take them to jail unless they gave the officers oral sex.

I am coaching my son’s baseball team starting up next week. I had an argument with an opposing coach at one point when my daughter was playing because he said to our team “ready boys?” Since then I have been working very hard to use gender neutral terms, such as players instead of boys, etc. I’m just working on my welcome email to the team and want to emphasize that we will be working on “sportsmanship” during the season. I not sure how I feel about that word, but can’t think of a good replacement. “On field conduct” seems wordy, any other suggestions? Just trying my best to make the experience as inclusive as possible, for two reasons. 1) even though i think my team will be all boys, i don’t know how everyone identifies and 2) these boys will one day grow up to be men, and I feel like I need to do more to create the world I want my daughter to grow up in. Any thoughts about this would be appreciated. I know this might not be how this board is usually used, but wasn’t sure where else to ask. thanks.

JFC. She “giggled” while reporting, so she can’t be believed. Because nervous laughter is apparently not a thing.

Holy fuck. This is just sick. And “she giggled” as proof of anything? Lots of us, myself included, tend to giggle under high emotion. It proves nothing. These people suck.

It’s also a cultural thing. For example, in the Indian subcontinent it’s known that nervous giggling is a sign of embarrassment or shame, just as turning red is for light-skinned people. So, she may have been giggling out of shame rather than nervousness.

I guess this is not technically misogyny, but…

Maybe I should also post this in the PSA thread?

It is medical misogyny.

Most medical testing is done on men. Testing of medications used almost exclusively by women is often less rigorous and the dots between cause and effect aren’t connected as quickly.

Breast cancer has visibility (Pink Ribbons everywhere) , so I am not surprised the link was finally made. For other issues… good luck.

A good point! I agree…

Right. That’s very true.

I’m not sure why this won’t one-box like the reply window shows, but this one’s important. Oh, well there we go.
