Same thing has been happening in the US. Multiple states are pushing legislation to make it a crime to insult the police or to ensure all peaceful protesters are treated like rioters (not the Capitol Bldg insurrection or sporting event types of rioters who are allowed to go home, but the ones accused of attacking the police and burning entire cities to the ground whenever property is damaged):
