While looking at the writing in that Instagram post is nearly physically painful for me as well, I try to keep in mind that criticisms such as this pretty much always boil down to:
-
Elaborate tone policing, or
-
Misunderstanding a subculture I am ignorant of
…and are thus best avoided, in the interest of the rhetorical principle of charity. The alternative is to use precious hours of my life trying to understand my 10yo nephew’s Fortnite memes, and down that road lies only madness.
