I’m going to go with David Brooks. I thoroughly expect him to do some hand-wringing about how immoderate this whole affair was, and what a shame that both sides are so gosh-darned outspoken and heated nowadays. Obviously both those screaming racist insults and those being insulted are equally at fault. Why can’t everyone just calm down - starting with the people being insulted?

Oh, I don’t take it at face value, and nor, it seems, does Maher. My statement was that Maher was making a joke — I’m literally watching the episode now, it was definitely a joke. He was not excusing it because he literally believes it.
Surely, Picard holding face in hands meme must be reserved for situations that absolutely call for that level of moral weight!
