How interested I am in hearing folks’thoughts:

Malcolm Gladwell: pass
Chris Hadfield: yeah, sounds good
Elon Musk: HARD PASS

One out of three ain’t bad, I suppose…

Please don’t sell anything with Elon Musk in it. No amount of profit is worth that.

Is there an Elon Musk other than the nutjob? It doesn’t seem like a very common name.

Gladwell lecture will be interesting, but hours after the lecture you will be wondering whether you missed the part where something actionable was provided.

Human language isn’t obsolete just because lots of people don’t want to speak to Musk or hear him speak.

The summary doesn’t exactly get across his point. It sounds like he was saying, “nobody will be talking in 5 years”. What he was actually saying is the capabilities of the Neuralink product would make it so the people who have it don’t need to talk to communicate.

Marketing fluff, basically.

Then there’s this:

The chip, which is battery-powered, would be implanted in the skull and its electrodes “very carefully” inserted into the brain.

This is really important to specify, since you know how willy nilly those brain surgeons can get.

Really? I wouldn’t trust anyone to implant a chip directly into my brain if it wasn’t open source, fully vetted, and I could recompile my own version of it on a standard linux distro.

And even then I’d let others go first.

I sure as fuck am not going to let Elon Musk have control of my head and thoughts like he’s got control of people’s cars.

Cursing about missing documentation, code that won’t compile, reverse engineering missing dependencies and absent OSS Project maintainers sounds like a neat metaphor for mental health issues.

I mean fair, there are all kinds of different issues with OSS that could occur, but all that I think personally is okay when you consider that if it’s Elon doing it, your brain will have an EULA on it just like his cars do.
