I’d mentioned it in the other thread, but I’d recommend The American Friend, starring Ganz and Dennis Hopper as the Mr. Ripley character.

Ganz is amazing in Downfall. The last thing I saw Ganz in was a video of the 2014 memorial concert for conductor Claudio Abbado who had passed away that year. There, Ganz (one of Abbado’s closest friends) read “Bread and Wine” by philosopher/poet Friedrich Holderlin (a favorite of Abbado). Ganz’s reading of Holderlin’s tragic elegy was very austere, letting the power of the poem’s words do the work. A brilliant move.
