Ads, ethics, and subscriptions revisited

Please use adaware or some other blocker. Your BB experience will be greatly improved.

I think it was valuable to point it out… the miles of T&A was not really necessary to get the point across, tho.

Most of us agree, and would like to NOT be subjected to that kind of misogyny back here, since we have to deal with other kinds of misogyny on a regular basis here. Again, I agree with your point, but forcing us to look at it is not particularly helpful, and it’s far LESS likely to reach the people who can change things. It just makes you seem trollish instead of trying to make a good point.

Not aimed at you, but just a joke, as someone recently said the same about one of my concerns.

The “continued” conversation is on me. I noticed several complaints about ads in the middle of unrelated conversations. Instead of flagging them as off-topic, I moved them to an ad-based topic, where they wouldn’t constitute a derail.

…though I probably should have created a new topic, instead of merging them into this one. My bad.

Nah, I don’t think it’s your bad at all. It’s an ongoing issue that others would like to discuss, which (apparently unlike concerns about the ignore feature) is an issue many of us care about. As I stated above, my problem was the wall of T&A, which was entirely unnecessary to make their point… :woman_shrugging:

Probably not, and it’s a fair point to make. I get the idea of not compounding the issue, but I have to say I was rather surprised at the both the type and quantity of the ads, something that was more clearly shown by the inclusion of the images. Since I use a 3d party script blocker for security I’ve never seen these ads. If they are offensive then that is on BB’s use of 3d party ads. Perhaps use of the spoiler tag would be a compromise?

A link to a screenshot or some such work around might have been just as effective. Or maybe blurring the shots, even?

The “making a point” thing is only half (or a bit less) of my reason for posting. I was genuinely wondering if I’d somehow individually triggered the fredericks-of-hollywood-wish-edition advertising keyword, or if the rest of you were familiar with these ads, on boingboing.

Anyway, I’ve got that answer now: It’s not just me.

I too, hope that boingboing will do something about it.

I don’t see how any recent posts added to the conversation here - We’ve already answered what we could when it was first opened. This isn’t a “kvetch about ad quality” topic - especially now when a huuuuuge number of advertisers have pulled their stuff (think travel, sports, etc).
