We are already rabbling about this one!
A nice update though about the proceeds. I still would have liked to see the kid get some level “profits” from this. I’d think the appropriate thing would be a free ride to UT.
The University of Tennessee decided that they would take the boy’s design and make it an official school shirt with a portion of the proceeds being donated to STOMP Out Bullying, a national non-profit organization that is dedicated to eradicating bullying of all forms.
Thank you. I really needed to see some evidence of decency amongst the humans today.
At that age I would have been stoked just to get a free T-shirt. (I don’t work on spec anymore though.)
He should probably open his own indie rock shirt designing business right away.
But think of the exposure!
He’s already received a hat and a football jersey from UT, and I’m sure that’s only just the beginning.
You know? As well as liking the shirt because of its backstory, I like it because that’s some pretty decent art. It makes a great shirt.
Some days you’re the dog, some days you’re the hydrant. I love wet bully days like this.
So they stole a kids design and aren’t paying him for it, is what I’m reading here?
That’s what I read anyway. They are profiting massively off of some kid’s (who can’t afford one of their tee shirts) design, and we as a society are so deadened to the cruelty of capitalism that we think this is a feel-gooder.
The kid was just offered a full four-year scholarship. No word on whether he or his parents have accepted.
