There is so much fucked with this I don’t even know where to start
Anyone that uses a gun or weapon to settle an argument is a fucking moron and a coward.
People who carry guns out of fear of everyone around them irrationally are also fucking morons, and are immediately going to use their gun out of fear the second they get a chance.
Of course the most fucked thing here is why is a woman being charged with murder when she not only did not shoot herself but was the victim of a shooting?
How does a prosecutor possibly defend this completely and literally insane form of logic? How is this even considered a logical course of action in a sane world?
Every time I meet an anti-abortion absolutist I will point them to this absolutely idiotic and completely insane case
I live in Colorado and we had a similar case in our Jefferson County (Conifer specifically). Basically a guy holding a ~2 year old got in a fight with two guys in a bar. It is all on video…the two guys “won” the fight and took it way to far, beating the guy up pretty bad. They definitely got jail time. Kid was fine though as a bartender grabbed her at an opportune moment.
Now the real question is the bone head holding the two year old…he escalated the fight and did not attempt to escape or get his child to safety when it was clear where things were headed. Last I heard the DA had not made a decision to charge or not charge, but that was a while ago. Certainly a tough question…
Mod note: “victim blaming” is a complicated rule to enforce in this topic, because who the “victim” is appears to be in dispute by TPTB (saying nothing of a “moral victim”), so let’s set some ground rules.
1 - someone shot is “the victim of a shooting” in the most literal sense, but whether or not that shooting was justified depends on facts, which AFAICT we don’t have all of here
2 - the same holds true for someone who shoots and kills an unborn baby. They shot and killed an unborn baby. Was it justified? Again, doesn’t appear to be enough information here to be sure.
So, in absence of the facts, I’ll ask everyone not to jump to knee-jerk “victim blaming” derailment in this topic until and unless we know more. Especially because there’s enough we do know to fuel a discussion - like the fact that the current laws are obviously a mess, and the idea that a prosecutor seems determined to find someone - anyone - to charge for anything should really not be a thing, IMHO.
If the reported facts are updated, thanks in advance for posting them here, if BB doesn’t end up with another post on this event.
The fetus was black AND female, so their value decreased at birth to be completely canceled at pre-puberty (the age we start “asking for it” by existing while girls)
I generally don’t like using absolutes but in the current climate that has taken on quite real negative absolutes I feel it is justifiable and necessary where it fits with sanity.
I grew up a deer hunter in a family with a conservative Marine father who kept a gun loaded next to the bed because of daily death threats.
I know there are sane people who own guns.
But I also know like most people on the road you don’t notice the millions of them who drive well. Its the loud swervy assholes who stand out.
Right now the people who are the swervy assholes are the open carry at all costs people who are highly visible where I live and in much of America where they make a point of brandishing their gun because they think that is exercising their rights.
Most of these people I have met I have no formal training in stopping an active shooter and they constantly talk about the fear of the people around them doing something wrong and being ready to take a guy down.
A grand jury is NOT a trial. They specifically WANT TO PUNISH PREGNANT WOMEN AND ENSURE THAT POTENTIAL PEOPLE HAVE MORE RIGHTS THAN ACTUALLY HUMAN BEINGS ALREADY ALIVE.
I read about this on the Scary Mommy facebook page this morning. I was horrified. Then I read the comments (I know, I know) and was dismayed by the number of people, women, mothers, who supported her being charged.
I always try to keep the hope that slowly, so slowly, things are getting better. I am going to keep trying.
So yeah, she very well could have been charged with causing herself to get shot.
No, not at all. Nobody gets charged with their own shooting. She may have committed assault against the shooter, but prosecutors don’t charge victims of shootings with their own shootings.
“What are you in for?”
“I hit myself so the police arrested me for assault.”
Slightly off topic, but i have to wonder if this would be true if it was an officer-involved shooting. If you are committing a crime and a cop takes a shot at you and hits a bystander, you get charged with the shooting. Lets go farther with this, especially relevant for the black community. If you are a victim of mistaken identity (“matched the broad description of”) and a cop shoots at you and hits a bystander, do you get charged with the murder? I mean, can’t very well hold the cop responsible, right?
Often, nothing happens. Like, it doesn’t even hit the news, or only the bare bones, no actual information about who was harmed or how/by whom, and certainly there’s no investigation leading to any charges.
And trust me, speaking of my local situation, if you ever indicate to a Chicago police officer that you are angry or frustrated at their blatant law-breaking, it will not end well for you.
It’s a really nasty closed system that, if she gets nothing else right, Lightfoot will have earned her position as new mayor if she exposes and cleans out the rot.
