Alabama woman charged with manslaughter of unborn baby while actual shooter goes free

It’s a good question. I’ve seen news reports where prosecutors have charged suspects with endangering civilians when the cops were the ones that shot near or actually hit bystanders. It only seems like it’s possible because we live in a bizarro world where the standard for a cop to fire their gun is slightly higher than, “I felt like it.”

Generally, there is legal precedent for charging perpetrators of a crime with the deaths of civilians or partners if they engage in a criminal act that leads to their deaths. But that gets pretty fucked up when it comes to real life scenarios, such as cops murdering a fleeing suspect by shooting him in the back and then charging his friend with the murder: https://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/news/phoenix-cops-shot-jacob-harris-charged-friends-with-murder-11319507

California has a similar law. If a death occurs in the commission of a crime, the surviving perpetrators have murder charges added to the other charges.

A pool cue is basically a club, which is without any doubt a potentially lethal weapon. Bad analogy.
