I am not into BDSM, so my perspective is a bit different. I consider it another kind of “sensation play”, not unlike ben-gay, oral sex with ice cubes, etc. There are foods I make with habanero peppers which I savor which probably would be actual torture for some others. But the attitudes and motives behind enjoying them can be rather different. Some people relish intense sensations, without being sadists.
