That’s the only part of his defence that doesn’t make think “how on Earth does this help you?” Every aspect of it other than reality-show level grandstanding is just ridiculous. The grandstanding is also ridiculous, but it has its own internal consistency.

Have they forgotten that this is the penalties phase? He’s been found guilty on the facts presented. The judge isn’t there to declare him innocent, he’s there to decide how much the twatwaffle is going to be fined. And to declare the debt nondischargable, so bankruptcy won’t protect him.

They have - or at least they’re pretending they have, given Trump pulled out the disclaimer from his financial statements and tried to read it in court, later claiming that it cleared him of fraud charges. The judge told him essentially told him he couldn’t because the time for that sort of thing had passed, and Trump made some sarcastic response.
