Slicker than normal when dry. I’m aware the road gets slicker with rain, especially when it first rains, I just didn’t think my speed was too fast even with rain. I was mistaken.
To be fair it is one of those weird on ramps, where you don’t really have to slow down much from exiting one high way to another, it sort of just goes off at an angle and joins the other highway. So it isn’t one of those smaller looping ones where you must slow down significantly.
This reminds me of when I had my bicycle accident a few years ago; the next bicyclist down the trail happened to be a doctor who stayed and helped until the paramedics arrived to cart me off to the ER.
Or it could have been something else - once saw a container of kerosene fall off the back of a truck going around a curve and splatter all over the road. The pavement coloration and angle of the sun was such that you couldn’t even tell it was wet! I saw it happen and braked hard and swung wide/high to keep two wheels on the dry before going through it gently. Saw a few folks behind me completely lose it though.
Y’know, if you had a plan to kidnap some foreign scientist by planting a small explosive device under a car and disguising yourself as an ambulance crew, it would look pretty much like that.
I know. I’m watching far too much tv drama.

The way the paramedics get out of the ambulance, you can almost hear the exasperated sighs.
In Zalgo County, ambulance chase you!
synchronicity. The same thing just happened this morning about 5 hours ago, but I don’t have a dashcam. Coming to work, I waited my turn to get on to the roundabout. A motorcyclist was turning slowly on the wet road, at about cycling speed. A car comes by, and very gently, nudge him, causing him to lose his balance, and fall on the road. Right in front of the car. At such slow speed, the car had no trouble stopping before running him over. He didn’t appear to be hurt except maybe for some scratches. The surprising thing was, right behind that car, came an ambulance.
Then I saw this.
EMT uniforms in Zalgo County should be vintage Evel Knievel jumpsuits. Swagger Stick included.
See this all the time on So. Cal freeways. Often times, I get the delightfully satisfying opportunity to pass these a-holes a minute or two later when their lane has stopped, and they can’t zip out of it due to the speeds of the surrounding lanes.
Only once did I get to witness a single car accident, where someone was doing massive lane switching. She was zipping around other cars, and didn’t notice that a minivan was already changing lanes. Over corrected to the right, then to the left, and did a complete 180 before slamming pretty solidly into the cement median barrier. The weird thing is that everyone else on the freeway (and we were already going a pretty good clip when this person decided that 5-10 over the speed limit wasn’t enough), apparently also saw this coming. We all slowed to about 60 and watched it play out in a big empty space of freeway before us. She was shaken but ok, and had no one to blame but herself.
Couple things.
A. Drivers of WRX’s are on average significantly younger and dumber (and importantly more Male) than most drivers.
B. Even those of us solidly above the age where insurance drops can still be very stupid manly men. I am not immune, so I bought a car that was just fun enough without being too fun. Not that I’ve never done anything dumb in it. (Hell, when I was 20 I got busted doing donuts in an Econoline van)
I don’t know about Zalgo, but the video is from Poland.
I’ve seen this happen a couple of times on my way to work, but then I have to walk near a big hospital, so really about every tenth pedestrian is medical staff of some description.
It appears the English police are similarly swift…
Heh, I had to take the video back a bit because I didn’t even see the car go off the road the first time. Obviously my observation skills are fantastic.
