American: The Bill Hicks Story

Just watched this great doco on ABC (you’ll need an Australian IP):

It’s up until the 1st of July.

Was this created outside the US? It seems Hicks was unusually popular in other countries. Not that he wasn’t popular here per se, it’s just that I get the strong feeling that his routines resonated especially strongly with English cultures that weren’t … American, per se.

Not sure, but Hicks filled theatres in the UK, and came back to the US to half-empty rooms… I guess that’s down to his angle being so critical of American culture.

They had that up on Netflix here… we watched it a while ago. It’s a great introduction to him and his work.
