Yes, the solar panel would make it more elegantly self-contained. You could run wires out of a solar path light (or two to get more voltage), since the fence has virtually no draw. All for little cost and no engineering. However, recharging 4 AA’a once a year is even less effort.
Couldn’t they use this?
Well, Mrs. Rocketpj saw me reading this post and immediately added it to my ‘to-do’ list for the garden. Thanks, Boing Boing.
I think that’s how we ended up with the @Menotyou machine gun approach mentioned above.
We will hold you to it and expect updates.
If you have demons raiding your lettuce bed, I would strongly advise against eating the lettuce.
I can just imagine the Gardeners’ Question Time panel now:
Our next caller is Boundegar from BoingBoing who’s got demons raiding their lettuces. BoingBoing, lovely little village on the edge of the Internet, mostly chalk soil and a generally temperate climate.
What can the panel suggest? Pippa?
“Lots of pests are really building up at this time of year,” warns Pippa Greenwood, “but if you act speedily you can stop them doing too much damage.”
“Demons in particular are rampant right now and relishing the young plants and germinating souls in our gardens. So go on night-time collecting hunts and also treat infested areas with the holy water biological control – it works brilliantly and is totally harmless to wildlife, pets and humans!”
The devil’s lettuce is best grown indoors, out of sight.
