Weirdly, a bunch of republicans are blaming Stacey Abrams for the boycotts, even though she’s pretty explicitly against them and wants companies and MLB to stay in the state and fight these laws, even though she’s happy they are speaking out against this law specifically.
She’s a Black woman: of course it’s her fault…whatever ‘it’ we’re talking about.

Definitely. More meant to highlight the Scalzi take, than Morgan Freeman’s character. And frankly, any dissension of the form “X is problematic” is a solid argument against putting anyone on pedestals. I’m probably thwacking a dead idea at this point, but hero worship is toxic and bad for the gander.
I think the thing I like most about Scalzi is that he seems the sort to say don’t put me on a pedestal.
(And think the best way to respect him is by not doing so.)

Martin O’Toole, a spokesman for the Georgia division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, said he understood the concern regarding COVID-19 but questioned the other safety issue.
“This is a memorial service that is part of the whole purpose for the park’s existence,” O’Toole said.
Well, he’s not wrong. Thing is, he is making an argument for the removal of the thing!
