Where the lines get drawn tends to be influenced by areas of relative homogeneity and/or pitifully contrafactual mythic histories; but the mixed cases are done hands-on by locally appropriate thug squads, with some movement happening by itself once people realized that their former neighbors are now looking to kill them.

I’m just shocked and amazed anytime I meet an engineer who’s a creationist/anti-vaxxer/climate change denier. I always assumed everyone had to take science courses in College. Yet there’s more of em than I ever thought possible.

I work in a DoD lab. At the last “organization day” (company picnic) I was stuck for half an hour talking to a creationist. Although he was more of a managemnt type than an engineer.

Unfortunately, education is not a cure all. I was confronted in med school by a classmate insisting that “blacks are just less evolved than whites.”. She was bright as hell, but apparently could not get past her childhood conditioning. At least that was how I rationalized it to myself. This shit is dreadfully contagious and often taken in with mother’s milk.
