Anti-Vaxxers successfully bring back measles and whooping cough

Huh. What’d she do? Wikipedia says her kids are vaccinated and that she’s for the practice, but the fact that they mentioned something that is, or at least used to be, so utterly unremarkable suggests that there’s more to it than that.

I have no idea as to the current vaccination status of her kids, but she’s on record as a woo-merchant of wide-ranging daftness that includes antivax.

She had earlier said that hers was a non-vaccinated household, and since she’s got a PhD in neurochemistry , it was harder than usual to blow her off as a know-nothing. These days she seems to regret having said anything at all about it.

Non medical non scientist defies basically the core of modern epidemiology. Stupid people mistake fame for actually knowing what he’s talking about. Film at 11.

I’m more pissed off that some arsehole bankrolled that criminal Wakefield into a new career.

I can’t believe Wakefield isn’t in prison.

He’s a fraud who’s grift is still costing lives.

I am completely vaxxed. Today I developed the exact symptoms of pertussis. It probably isn’t, but after talking to a doc and two RNs the efficacy for the Whooping Cough vax is less than 80%. Herd immunity is the only statistically viable prevention method.

So whether I have Whooping Cough or not (probably acute bronchitis), fuck anti vaxxers.

Fine but do it with a large needle filled with vaccines.

I liked this, but then I felt bad because I don’t like it.

cackle!

Apparently the pertussis vaccine was changed a decade or so ago. There were people with actual, measurable bad effects (seizures, rashes) from the entire virus. So now the vaccine is only a partial amount of the virus–which isn’t a big deal when most are vaccinated.

But when Marin parents decide they want to control the vax schedule, even up to date adults have a significant chance of contracting a preventable disease.

In my case it’s likely something else, but there have been pertussis outbreaks in the bay area the last three years running. (And I like breathing)

Well hopefully its something more benign.

Definitely not. I’ve dodged that bullet, but a friend of mine had it and it was nasty. He did share his pain meds though, which were pretty fucking good.

Let’s keep in mind that the doctor behind the original, discredited study claiming an MMR/autism link was British.

I mean that in the USA, rights are individual.

Elsewhere they are at the discretion of a sovereign.

That is a rough summary, please look for the point and not how to point out that obvious oversimplification is overly simple. It is, quite simple.

This was the central foundational principle of the USA, at least as far as the folks who wrote the Constitution (and declaration of Independance). But this is not how government and culture works world wide.

So I asked where you were speaking from.

I notice you didn’t bother to answer my question, rather handling it like a debate point to be recast. I didn;'t realize we were arguing. I was just curious. Thank you for your good faith contributions.
