“This excerpt from the documentary Peace Officer centers around William J. ‘Dub’ Lawrence, a former sheriff who established and trained Utah’s first SWAT team, he says, with ‘noble intent.’ Thirty years later, Lawrence is victimized by the the same unit when SWAT officers kill his son-in-law, and he’s left with questions about the dangers of increased militarization of police. The full film will air on PBS on Monday, May 9, 2016, as a part of ARMED IN AMERICA, a special two-night television event exploring America’s rising gun violence. For more information about the film, visit the Independent Lens website. Peace Officer will also be streaming online until May 22, 2016.”
I mean… I’m sure this will be explored in the documentary (at least I hope it will) but this whole “only worried/concerned about things when they happen to yourself/people-you-care-about” thing is worrisome no? Do we need to bring the empathy thread over here?
