There are many fairly pedestrian sculptures of Wilde, by trying (too hard?) to get beyond the anodyne both of these do less than justice to the man – this is one of the more expressive (and beautiful) ones
by Numa Patlagean
Well, from the picture I think I like it. Will try look at it in situ the next time I’m in London (which will be a while, though.)
Reminded me of Escher’s Bond of Union a little, but more of a clumsy axeman performing a brutal execution. I shall not be going out of my way to see it.
More gothic uneasy images
Did you ever see the Sci-Fi Channel (as it was then called) production of Dagon (2001)? That be-tentacled lady reminds me of a lady in that film.
I haven’t but I will try to seek it out. Thank you for the tip.
Haven’t seen it in ages, not since the 1st viewing, but my BF and I both V much enjoyed it.
Here’s another wonderful, batty, Hallowe’en-y one:
The Bat Woman
Albert Joseph Pénot (1890)
Got hip @ the same place:
I was reminded of this famous batty magazine cover:
This particular copy was auctioned here:
…and thusly described:
WEIRD TALES (1923-92) Pulp
October, 1933; Howard Conan story; classic Brundage bat-woman cover; Lovecraft reprint of “Festival” from 1925 Weird Tales; one of the most highly sought-after pulps of all time. Light tan pages; slight chip/tear on spine and cover.
What did it sell for?
Highly sought-after indeed!
It could very well be!
Turner Prize time, always an opportunity for art critics to get their knives out. Some interesting work, I will try to get along to see it.
They weren’t wrong.
Hang it in the basement to scare away the mice
Bob Dylan
Untitled, 2020
acrylic on canvas
Halcyon Gallery, London
(An homage to Leonard Cohen, maybe?)
It is a more-than-competent, narrative painting, I don’t know enough about Leonard Cohen to get the homage though.
Halycon have tarnished reputation for dealing badly with artists (and Ehud Sheleg is an ex-Tory Treasurer with dodgy connections)
