At least two more women come forward with Kavanaugh sexual assault claims

Oh how I wish we could all be done with those two!

(Well, Biden is almost gone; fingers crossed that he doesn’t do a vanity 2020 run.)

If he did, his opponent should just keep repeating, “Did you ever appologize to Anita Hill?”

His comments recently, where he compares the current situation to the Thomas confirmation hearings, without ever really acknowledging his own role in that debacle, have been goddamn infuriating.

A24 is absolutely killing it. I’m on the board of a single-screen art house theater and we basically greenlight almost everything they’re putting out. I really wanted to take the kids to this, but DVD drop is tomorrow.

I don’t think it’s just MeToo. We live in a more networked society.

People love to say things like “twitter is garbage” or blame Facebook for the fact racists voted in droves in 2016 for a racist, but there’s positive effects too.

In the past, the main media outlets were TV, radio, and print. If the three decide something is a story, it’s not.

In the age of Twitter not only can women share their stories, but the community can visibly rally around them. This, in turn, informs how reporting happens - WaPo, NYT, etc has to take the matter seriously when there’s such visible support.

There are good indications that the GOP apparatus had knowledge of the accusations. And that the Evil Twin spin on it was a prepared response for when it broke.

Whelan couldn’t realistically have had the details he had to assemble that crap without some level of pre-knowledge and prep. And there’s been indications he and others in the group shepparding Kavannagh though the process knew Blase’s name before it was publicly released.

Dollars to doughnuts they know about some of the other accusations as well.

Sorry, I realize I was unclear. I didn’t mean these women were a GOP conspiracy, just that I figured they’d try that at some point. At 4am my brain gets angry.

Anita Hill’s family apparently has a running joke that whenever someone knocks on the door, they say “Oh, is that Joe coming to apologize?”

I wonder how the Cosby sentencing later today will influence this discussion.

You’re right, and it works as a kind of immediate feedback loop ensuring that certain stories keep coming to the top. Cosby’s about to be locked up in part because a Hannibal Buress bit went viral on social media.

Kavanaugh knows what happened but he LIED about it and he continues to LIE about it. In my mind, there is no redemption for him.

From the Republican point of view, they lost a seat that didn’t matter much and will flip back in the next election for the price of one of the strongest presidential candidates for 2020. It was a huge victory for them. Roy Moore very nearly won that seat as well. Apparently being a child molester is not a major problem for the voting block.

Or really, most of the electorate thought it was some lie that the Democrats made up to make Roy Moore look bad. Control the message and you control the voters. The real motto of Fox News.

Another difference that makes it a strong 5 Frankens is that one had/could wield power, the other is a job interview.

There is no doubt in my mind that this was well known among the people pushing to get him on the Supreme Court. They don’t care, all they want is an young ideologue who will push their agenda. They want another Clarence Thomas on the court.

This is also why they were acting in such bad faith with his voting records and why the senate Republicans are flipping out every time someone suggests a delay. They’re trying to rush the process through before people have a chance to properly dig through his history.

A very good film. Even though it is difficult to watch in places, it is still not as painful as that other great film about middle school, Welcome to the Dollhouse.

The GOPers are beyond redemption.

Right. And this is also why a disproportionate amount of news is “What’s going on on Twitter” these days.

Not in the least because it lets news orgs mine for news on slow news days.

Right. The man he is now is a man who is lying about what he did when he was a teenager. Nuf said.

I think maybe you’re not doing the hashtag thing right.

The thread to hold onto here is that he’s not on trial, he’s not at risk of losing his job or being disciplined in any way. That Supreme Court seat doesn’t belong to him, so it’s not being “taken away” if he doesn’t get it.

I don’t get why Democrats aren’t just repeating this over and over again. It’s not a parole hearing. They’re supposed to be selecting one of the nine most trustworthy people in America. And yes, it is possible to find men who no one would accuse of rape. So fucking try harder.
