A 1/4-20 tap (and corresponding die) are a must-have in one’s workshop. Anything then can be made tripod-mount with the tap, and anything tripod-mountable can be made attachable to anything with the die.

My Joby GripTight Micro stand used a standard tripod connection, so I can unscrew the legs and attach the phone holder to a full-size tripod. The whole thing folds down to a size that’s not much bigger than a Bic lighter. It is considerably more expensive, but since I got it at REI, I paid for it with a bit of my yearly dividend. So basically, free.
