And I hadn’t even thought of the mundane, day-to-day aspects of this:
There are so many things about this coup attempt that bother and enrage me, but one is a longer-term issue Tromp has been guilty of since before taking office. I wish there could be some repercussions to, if you hold office and have access to highly vetted, accurate information, and choose not to avail yourself of that information…I don’t know, it seems like that should carry some kind of negligence charge or something.
In this case it would apply to all the Repubs who voted to suppress votes, as well. We can all see the conspiracy theories, but these pols get better info than that.
And I realize that sometimes it might get complicated, with confusing or contradictory intel, but in this case of “election fraud” there is no such thing.
Finger pointing has completed one, maybe two complete circles at this point. I’ve totally lost track, and it’s been four days?
Reminder of what a piece of work this guy is:
No one here will be surprised, but our courageous Senator Collins of Maine has issued nothing since the 6th when she was congratulating herself for doing the bare minimum of voting to confirm the votes, and then releasing a sternly worded memo.
The silence is deafening.
In contrast, our other representation in DC:
Our D rep:
Our R rep:
(Not awesome, but he names the responsible party and calls for action.)
Our I sen:
Which is just a cut-out for other groups. Which are cut-outs for other groups…
Does Maine have recall elections?

Sage advice:
Don’t Engage
January 11, 2021 10:44 a.m.
A month ago I made a point that I and others have been making in various ways and in various contexts for years, but with renewed urgency. After Trump Democrats must exercise great discipline not to operate within or engage with the bad faith arguments of Republicans who remain unwilling to come to grips with or take accountability for what they’ve done to the country. Today we see, predictably , the same pattern: it has taken Republicans only three or four days to resolve that they are the primary victims of the events of the last week. We’ve skipped ahead from the “stolen election” lie to claims Republicans are the new Jews being trained off to concentration camps because their months-old pet social network Parler became too radioactive for the hosting service it ran on.
Whether it’s upset that Democrats are demanding accountability over amnesia or outrage that the President lost his Twitter account, the leadership of the current Republican party and unfortunately many tens of millions of Americans are wedded to a mindset of grievance and bad faith that has kept the country in its thrall for far, far too long.
Operating within, getting tangled up within these tangles of bad faith and whining has enervated and hobbled Democrats for years. Dispensing with that won’t make things simple or fix things in itself. Indeed, the challenges only begin once you have. But it clarifies things. It doesn’t get you tangled up chasing nonsense. This past week is the ultimate example of the costs of indulging lies.
Since Wednesday’s deadly attack in Washington, D.C., Scott-Railton, a senior researcher at the Citizen Lab at the University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs, has been trying to identify members of the mob that briefly paralyzed American government.
Good question that I hadn’t thought of. From what I can tell, it’s only available for local seats, not the ones we send to DC, but I’m going to keep looking.
Like he cares, he’s going to make millions on his book…oooh.
Any time Republicans start with all their DARVO bullshit I’d love it if any Democrats working on or pushing impeachment would just Tap a Sign that says: “This isn’t about Republicans, it’s about Trump, Hawley, Cruz, Qanons and White Supremacists. If you want to make that about Republicans, you’re welcome to, but that’s on you. Who are you going to be. Decide.”
I don’t buy Hallmark cards often but after looking at their political spending over the past several years I will never purchase another.
Yeah, good point. I didn’t intend that as praise for the company, more as a gleeful recognition that Repubs are losing some of their funding.
If you really want to show you care, make a card. Or if you can’t draw, get one from a nice small artist
The interview is here.
In my opinion, Pelosi flubbed the questions about an aging democatic leadership, but I suppose that’s not her main point.
It ain’t over. Keep an eye out locally, folks.
Five days after the attack right-wingers still can’t decide whether the mob was a righteous protest by American patriots or a false-flag operation by Antifa provocateurs trying to make Trump supporters look bad.
