Maybe, I dunno. Seriously, the USA, as “free” as it is, is a really fucked up place. We are like animals, compared to much of the world. Nowhere else is there as much graffiti, destruction and general trashing of the place as here in the USA. Apart from being in wars, where else are you going to most likely face gun violence as an innocent bystander? Where else are you most likely to face a thug cop?
We can’t have nice things, because we destroy them.
You’re right. It’s not the citizens responsibility to de-escalate the situation. Nor is the the citizens right to escalate the situation and expect to be treated as if they hadn’t.
And in this case, with the evidence we have, I don’t see how you can equate the cops’ actions with thuggery. At worst the cop that cuffed her, according to other news reports, acted stupidly by ignoring that she had earphones on, and by grabbing her from behind and startling her, and then taking her attempt to escape his grasp, not know it was a cop, as resisting (arrest?).
This could have been de-escalated by her telling him she didn’t realize what was going on because she had headphones on, and simply telling him her name. Instead, it appears, she chose to be loudly indignant.
I see this bullshit on Boing Boing all the time. People make assumptions about situations based on very little evidence and are quick to start spewing cop-hating rhetoric. I’d rather see people discuss these issues seriously. Since police mis-behavior is a very serious subject. If a cop is the bad guy in a situation, then they should be treated accordingly. On the other hand, if the civilian in the situation acts badly and causes the situation to escalate, then that should be acknowledged.
So, you’re saying that because the cop has the authority, he has the right to grab jogging women half his size, from behind, on a busy street, and take any amount of struggling resistance as a cuffable offense? To your mind, that doesn’t equate with thuggery?
My friend, I have a recruiter at Blackwater who will be contacting you shortly with a job offer you will find exceedingly enticing.
Oh please. Again, neither one of us actually knows what went down. And yes, if a cop tells you to stop, and you don’t stop, he does have the right to grab you. She’s lucky the stupid cop didn’t tackle her.
Also, you can stuff your Blackwater comment. And I ain’t yer friend, pal.
Truest statement said all thread. We really don’t know what happened. And it’s clear that my “face-value” is totally different than yours. Good thing we have the law to clear everything up /'casm
