I’ve been on the fence about seeing this one in the theater, or waiting for it to come out. I clicked through on some of your spoilers (ok… all of them, once I started reading I couldn’t stop), and I’m really happy I did. Thank you BoingBoing community for once again providing good information to help with my decision making. The premise y’all have laid out for how they wrapped it up is one of my least favorite story telling devices with the exception of Flashpoint Paradox where messing up the time line is the whole point.
How about if Captain America avoided meeting the others by returning the stones to just a few minutes BEFORE each was taken, along with a note saying the guys could go ahead and take one while leaving the other. Was there some reason they had to be returned right at the very moment they were taken? Also, did he return the stolen Pim particles as well?
But yeah, time travel based plots usually do get messy unless they’re done well.
Although… i suppose the paradox could be resolved by accepting that steve was always in the past of the prime timeline after he returned the stones, we never found out who peggy’s husband was afterall. Maybe he just lay low for 80 odd years until the moment came where he could be sitting on that bench at that time but when he took that decision to stay in the past he couldn’t have known an alt timeline wouldn’t have been created. If you think about it, peggy’s unnamed, unseen husband and her kids and grandkids would have been wiped from existence by steve remaining in the past with her unless it was steve all along.
It doesnt; it makes me just sad about where the priorities are laid in our socity. again. thats all.
Then you are the worst kind of “fan” who mocks everyone for liking mainstream comics.
not really; everybody mocks someone for something. If you like that stuff, good for you. I hear for instance some really embarrasing pop-music once in a while and sometimes I dont just like it, I love it. besides, marvel and DC aint the only “mainstream”-comics, right? I do love much of the old franko-belgium “mainstream”-comics as I love some of the american stuff like Transmetropolitan, watchmen or a lot from bill sienkiewicz.
Its just that the whole “super-heroes”-movies from the past 10 years and franchises as a whole in this timeframe are so fucking overblown in every way, thats what really bugs me. its completly out of proportion now.
As I stated above. How is it even possible that Sharon Carter wouldn’t have recognized her own uncle?
To the above statements around “what if this person thought THIS”. That’s the problem. We don’t know what was thought so we have to go with the simplest and most obvious thing. iron man wished Thanos and his forced out of existence in the same way Thanos wished half of all life out of existence.
You can play mental gymnastics with what if this or that. THAT IS THE PROBLEM. A good story eliminates that bullshit. And here be the dragons of “how do I make the narrative ok screen for my explanation”.
It’s a perfectly fine ending to bring the phase to a close but it is wrought with so many issues it’s best to simply say fuck it.
Obligatory, especially given the resemblance to Thor 2023:
You’re just now feeling “sad” about that?!?!
Also, you forgot a vowel:
this is not what I was talking about, and you know it.
seriously melz?!? read again:
It doesnt; it makes me just sad about where the priorities are laid in our socity. again.
at least that above is a better…well, lets say I got a lot more out of that movie than endgame. but thats just me.
Yes, I missed the qualifying word “again.”
I still think you may need to go take a breather; you seem needlessly irate.
Whether the last Avengers movie got made or not, the declining state of the world would be the same.
As far as I can tell your position appears to be “Hollywood is nuts for spending so many hundreds of millions of dollars to make a movie (that recouped its production costs almost immediately) instead of spending it on prototypes for fusion power plants.”
To me, that’s hardly an indicator that Hollywood is “fucking nuts” (your words). It’s an indicator that Hollywood knows more about how to make profitable movie franchises than they know about how to make profitable fusion power.
Actually at what point did anyone decide Hollywood should be the flag bearer for technological advances within society?
How about being pissed that Microsoft or Apple put out a new piece of soft/hardware for three times the previous price and just put a new number at the end of it.
that maybe, but its part of the reason of the decline.
quite the contrary, I woke up out of my three-year-depression and start to articulate my
again.
(and I still love you, melz)

there. and I am again the asshole, when I say
but essential they just shit to make money.
thanks.
“Our society” isn’t choosing to pour money into moviemaking rather than science. They are two separate things with different revenue streams. Hollywood spends money to create amazing spectacles for people to watch. Thousands of people are involved in the making of that spectacle and it creates thousands of jobs. That has absolutely nothing to do with fusion reactor research.
I’m sure that if this was the 50s, you would be one of the people shaking a fist and saying that you’re a REAL Western fan and that all of these mainstream western movies are shit compared to the authentic books, but it’s all fucking overblown now with people singing while riding horses shaking fists
Trends come and go. Personally I’m sort of fascinated by the Marvel films, because nobody’s ever tried making an interconnected series of movies on this scale before. 22 massive tentpole films all leading to one gigantic six-hour-long conclusion. It’s never been done in the entire history of film, and might never happen on this scale again. It’s a crazy time in movie history and we’re watching it right now.
:pauses chewing:
Are people arguing about the logic of time travel in a movie with a talking raccoon?
:returns to baloney:
That’s… most unfortunate.
Being completely serious, and not at all snarky:
I do not recommend spending time the internet arguing with people, if one is depressed or recovering from depression. There’s far too much prevalent negativity and defeatism, and way too many energy leeches who seek to spread the misery around, by any means available.
Keep your head up, and I hope it gets better.
Maybe this means that the people who ran the Apollo program no longer have to bear responsibility for all the unrelated things they didn’t do. (“They can put a man on the moon but they can’t cure the common cold/make solar cars/balance the budget/design a comfortable plus-size brassiere that doesn’t use an underwire??”)
Just fix the prostate exam. Like come up with a scan or something.
I have low standards.
I don’t want Apollo engineers anywhere near my prostate. Everything they design looks like a giant metal phallus.
This thread just took a really weird turn
