He is charismatic, it’s just that there are different “types” of charisma. His version of charisma sells like hotcakes to people who love authoritarianism and combativeness, he doesn’t have to be right, he just has to “lay down the law” and “not take shit from anybody.” To the most of us it seems like incoherent ranting, impotent rage, childish tantrums, unfathomable pettiness, and plain old stupidity. However, to the subset of the population who thinks that screaming they’ll have some poor fast food clerk’s job and demands to see a manager because their hamburger came with pickles when they’d ordered it without is a reasonable thing to do, Trump is charismatic as hell. To them all of that stuff looks like “strength.”
My personality will get me kicked out of the regional sales conference, but I absolutely slay at DefCon. Different strokes for different folks, and if the video creator was genuinely savvy he would have at least mentioned that you have to read the damned room. Even I know that.
This!
Psychopaths are either seen as charismatic or they trigger a flight response.
The most charismatic people I’ve ever met have also been the hugest assholes.
Has your candidate won, previously? I do not think one can be a proper idiot without power. The last candidate I voted for who won was William J Clinton. Although I -was- pro-Obama. We would have detoured out of Iraq via Syria and Lebanon (Just you wait) long before now, without him.
It is a sad time for us all. We want a nation of realized potential, and we’ve built one on rounding errors.
People who make rounding errors a lot and tend to round down other people too much, and round themselves up too much… total charisma killer.
It’s all relative. Conservative compared to European style socialism? Yes, the things he was allowed to pass were not that level of progressive, despite his intent.
Conservative compared to the Republican party? Christ no.
The GOP isn’t conservative. It’s just a party of unprincipled assholes and the suckers who vote for them.
Democrats are conservatives.
Progressive parties don’t win presidential elections in the US.
The candidate I voted for previously has, if that’s what you mean. I never found any of their personalities charismatic. On the other hand, one reason I trusted Obama a little more than I should have was in part down to his apparent lack of charisma. So I guess I got suckered too in a different way. Suffice it to say I’ve learned my lesson.
