It also looks like it may have been difficult for the top center rider to avoid kicking the bottom rider in the head when pedalling. Not much clearance there.

Alas Art’s original cycle shop is long gone. The owners moved their operation out to Berwyn and had a successful operation until the store burned down in January 2014. They never reopened.

The original location on East 75th street is a church now.

Probably not much street crap on the top chains, either, so likely just surplus oil drips. And that’s ok, greasy hair styles were popular back then.
