I have not seen this yet, and should probably see if I can pick it up on DVD or what have you. The trailer looked great. I can see how people who lived through the AIDS crisis in the 80s would have a hard time watching it, though.
Fair enough. People will react to it in different ways. Interesting set of perspectives in this article, including this quote from Marc Thompson, who was diagnosed with HIV in the mid 80s:
“I’ve spoken to a few people who just can’t watch it yet. They won’t watch it yet. It is too traumatising. We need to ensure that there is care and support for those of us who lived through it, those of us affected and the young people who carry the stigma on their backs. It’s a celebration and it’s joyful, but it’s triggering.”
So, the American Republicans and Supreme Court don’t have any influence on British TV, do they?
Because the only place that has right wing shitheads is America, after all… /s
If I had a time machine I would cut that rope.
You do know that’s the London Eye in both gifs?
How long does the ride last? I had the opportunity once, as I was walking along the Thames, but geez, 36 quid?
Great cast, with Gillian Anderson being amazing, among others.
Jessica Rabbit was drawn that way.
Meh. Ratings come and go. It’s an institution - like SNL - that I hope sticks around through the ups and downs. I think there were a few storylines since the reboot that were a bit stilted and rather hamfisted with the politics aspect (again, I don’t think this is all that new), but overall, I thought every season since the reboot was just fine - given a choice of no Doctor Who, or some Doctor Who, I’ll take some.
I’d rather they would spend less time in contemporary Earth times as a general rule - but the show has always done that. You might say it won’t age as well, but then, the show did it in the 70s with Tom Baker, and some of those are my favorite: City of Death, Pyramids of Mars…When it comes to the body he ends up reincarnating in…shrug, who cares, as long as the writing and acting is good.
I’m sure it’s not the current issue, but Pertwee spent much of his time exiled to 1970’s Earth because the Beeb budget was so tight.
That was the same time The Goodies seasons usually started with episodes shot outdoors with ludicrous props, and ended with studio sets because they’d blown the season budget with a few episodes to go, so there was a fair bit of that kind of frugality.
Britains right wing and the US right wing are walking along hand-in-hand right now. They always have done in my lifetime, and I include Tony Blair as right wing. That arsehole has only become more reactionary since he left office.
British TERs are accepting money from US groups like the Heritage Foundation, then going on the BBC to hate on trans people where they are encouraged by the BBC presenters. If you follow the money then neither Britain or the US looks good.
I have a theory that all fairground rides are more expensive than crack, on an entertainment per minute scale.
Even the Helter Skelter can be rough.
