And yet, I’ve always seen him associated with the counterculture. He’s not the only Beat poet who fitted well into the counterculture. Lenore Kandel comes to mind.
I’m not sure I heard about him before I found a copy of “Freewheeling Frank” (he wrote it with Frank) about 1976. Maybe I knew about his writing “Mercedes Benz” somewhat before that, or an article in CoEvolution Quarterly about “Gorf”.
A bit of a search shows that he was a teacher for decades starting in 1963, and that paid the bills.
Oh god damnit. McClure was a close family friend and collaborator. This hits me hard.
