Black ened Spider. Blackend Spider. When you set them on fire they become red briefly and then black and sooty.

Hey, I just read “The Black Spider” last spring! Thanks, Powell’s Books, for turning me on to its delightful creepiness. Fans of old school, pre-Lovecraft horror must read it!
