there’s a scene in “koyaanisqatsi” that has a flyby over enormous fields of brightly colored flowers that reminds me of this.

Mainly the tulip bulbs are sold, rather than the blooming flower head itself.
Thousands of blossoms harvested simply to go in the garbage. Beauty?
Into the garbage? Probably composted - we’re talking Denmark and Holland here. But yes, these farms are for bulb cultivation - not flower production. The cut flower tulips bought from retailers are likely grown in S.American and African greenhouses.
