Yeah so those strings on Naturally Stoned borrow a little creative juice from 007, n’est-ce-pas? All art is theft. Just sayin’

Morrissey can carry a tune too. Still both oxygen thieves.

Before he became a meme-friendly ham televangelist, Kenneth Copeland was briefly a pop singer.

Was wearing a brand new, still stiff, ‘car coat’ length, gabardine mackintosh to indoor parties a thing back then?

I guess so.

For those who weren’t there at the time, please let me assure you that this (like most of Old Hollywood’s attempts to co-opt and monetize the “yoot kulcha” of that day) was just as awkward and embarrassing and cringe-worthy back then as it is today - maybe more so.

“Groovy”, it was not.

It was a long-standing branch of ‘Square’ culture trying desperately to seem “hip” and “with it” – and failing miserably.

And it hasn’t improved with time.

A hundred thousand years ago, figure the late 1960s, convicted pornographer, publisher and left wing agitator Ralph Ginzberg published a great magazine called Avant Garde. The entire run is on line.
Anyhow, his advertising tag line was “Are you Avant Garde, or derrière?”
Seems to me this act may not be the Avant Garde…

The other guy’s name is “Bubba” (true story). Seems a more appropriate name for the group: “Chuck and Bubba”.

Er, thank you so very ahem much…

I love songs like this, but for reasons that probably don’t work for anyone else.

I got to know ‘Bubba’ in the 1980s when he was touring as part of a folk act as Elkin Thomas with his wife, Aileen. Elkin played a long-neck Ode banjo and wrote songs about Jesus ‘n things. They had been part of Leonard Cohen’s backing band in the early 70s, with Charlie Daniels.

Thank you so much for posting this! For some reason over the last week I had been confusing Chuck Woolery and Chuck Barris. Chuck Barris is still fine right? Is he doing ok?

I mean I know he is dead, but he didn’t turn out to be an asshole, I hope?

Did you misspell assassin?

This reminds me so very much of The Love Generation.

…maybe.

Holy Flashback Batman!

I instantly recognized the Playboy Mansion set. I am extremely disappointed to find out it wasn’t actually filmed at the Playboy Mansion.

Add Oliver Bird and make it a trio.
