How could you not? After all, there are “six record-breaking waterslides” for the monsters to chase your characters down …
Except you can. Not the Hoover Dam specifically, but cruises go hard on pushing those shore excursions.
I’ve seen quotes for some big ships in mpg. Not miles. Meters.
I agree that they’re fascinating from that point of view. But only one kind of ship building of course. Personally, I find anchor handling vessels and associated craft of the offshore industries more fascinating. The fact that they could pull this monstrosity along says it all.
(The second image is just for scale)
And who could say that these aren’t the peak of shipbuilding?
(both of those can outrun the Icon of the Seas with more than double its speed)
A hideous, gigantic, neon-lit floatin’ hotel. Sounds about right.
There we go.
Fair points, all!
Can’t forget these bad boys either:
The newest Canadian icebreaker, coming soon, is rated for continuous progress in eight foot thick ice. 54,000 hp and 2” thick steel hulls are no joke.
Recent Leah Rudick bit on cruise ships. if you aren’t aware of her hilarity already…
It’s a shark tank. They throw a whole family in there, and fear and trauma makes for a memorable bonding experience.
… a pool just for grownups, plus plenty of bites to fuel up for bolder bonding…
Am I reading this correctly in that it seems to mean “get boozed up to find someone to screw”?
I mean, there was the all ages SM offered in the ad copy above… so maybe?
why not both (insert gif)
Too bad it was named for such an asshole.
I’m sure I got this from the BBS, but always good to give back when it suits the conversation. I found this timelapse video of a cruise ship being built pretty mezmerizing.
… compared to owning one’s own megayacht, this is an economical and communitarian alternative
Good point. I can picture thousands of community-minded and ecologically-concerned millionaires opting to climb aboard this floating steel island rather than show off their own private mega-yacht.
Once it reaches a certain size, you lose all the sense of being aboard an actual ship, a seagoing vessel. Other than it being loaded with certain types of amusements, and that it can take you to various ports, you might as well be on a spaceship, or a giant teleporting skyscraper hotel.
