When Sanders’ delegate count surpasses hers?
You think she has the will power to wait that long. Hmmm.
I was answering your first question.
Yes, but I’m saying when she fires her campaign manager she will make the story, no matter the count at that point.
I’m quite sure she’s been chewing out some folks for the past couple of weeks. Mass - too close. Maine - you should have delivered that, Mich - WTF? See what happens the next week. My guess heads roll after Ohio, Illinois.
She treated Secretary of State like a goddamn consolation prize.
I liked Scalzi’s blog post on this today.
Although the most fun bits were about the GOP…
Yet again, the GOP’s problem is that it wants desperately to stop Trump, but unfortunately the voter base it’s cultivated for years to accept a candidate just like Trump is doing what it’s been trained to do. And while the irony is delicious, it has a horrifying aftertaste because it doesn’t change the fact that barring divine intervention, Trump and his fascistic shitshow of a campaign are going to the general election. So, you know, again: Thanks for that, GOP.
(And while I’m at it, GOP, thanks so much also for having the only barely viable alternative to Trump be Ted Cruz, a bipedal mound of pig offal that yet manages form words. When we’re done with this election, we’re going to have a talk, you and I. Depend on it.)
Re: crossover voting
It happens to some extent, particularly with moderates, when they see that one race or the other is more competitive.
But strategic voting, for example, voting for someone you hope to defeat in the general (known as “raiding”): it’s pretty rare in the U.S. This study looked at the 1988 primaries (which featured Dukakis, Jesse Jackson; Pat Robertson, on the other side) and found that the rate of strategic voting was no more than 2%.
When Republicans say “Socialist” they don’t need to say “dirty Socialist” or “disgusting Socialist” or “un-American Socialist.” From the sneering way they say it, it’s inherent and assumed. They do it with the same leer that they pejoratively use “Democrat” as an adjective (eg, “Democrat policies” instead of “Democratic policies”).
Nobody does it better than McCarthy:
Just remember: Improbable things happen.
They’ll be fools regardless?
I still think all the states should vote at the same time.
The parties hold the primaries, so it’s on them.
Not that is ought to be that way, I think it stinks, but the states aren’t voting, and I am being pedantic.
Well, the whole idea of delegates should go out the fucking window along with the electoral college.
Make it a primary everywhere (closed, I guess, not so fussed about that, TBH, but make it the same everywhere) have the vote held on the same day everywhere, and make it decided by popular vote (decided by single transferable vote or something similar). Throw all the archaic disenfranchising crap out.
There’s one fucking constituency - the country. Let everyone’s vote count equally and let everyone vote for every declared candidate. Then hold the general election a month later.
There’s one fucking constituency - the country.
It really is 50 states (plus territories) though. At least 8 regions. There is something to the stages of voting.
Let everyone’s vote count equally and let everyone vote for every declared candidate.
I’d rather leave it more or less as it is, since the purpose of it is to prevent folks who got minority amounts of the vote from being the head of the Executive branch - but I like the idea of a shorter primary season, very much.
I would like to see the House of Representatives return to a 1:350,000 representation ratio. That would mean it would be something around 2,000 members. K Street can herd 350 cats, lets see them herd 2,000.
oooh, that had to bern
While we’re dreaming, let’s abolish political parties, and go with instant runoff voting.
To those who would consider staying home because, to paraphrase Tolstoy, we’re offered a choice between a giant douche and a turd sandwich, allow me to propose another alternative.
If your state is in the bag for a particular candidate, vote third party instead. It’s heartwarmingly harmless. Go ahead. Just throw your vote away!
What, you expect me to NOT quote cartoons?
I still expect to vote Clinton in the general.
Even if Sanders runs as an independent?
Yet I feel better informed than 95% of the voting public. Maybe it’s because I don’t follow the media.
I follow the media only to see what’s not being said.
Between the rabid albino weasel, hedgehog and marmot I am torn between voting for them or turning them into outerwear.
Why not both?
