Were these flights cancelled by woke?

(If not, here’s finally a case where they should have been.)

English/French/Italian/USA-themed sounds like a great promotion for a delicious quartet of limited edition burgers at a fast food chain. Bonus points if they have little paper flags on toothpicks stuck in the top.

Dressing up actual human beings and insulting both their personal dignity and that of the countries their stereotypical outfits are supposed to represent, not so much. It’s truly shocking what flight attendants had to put up with back then, and how it was advertised. Hopefully what they have to deal with these days is typical customer service headaches, rather than their employer treating them like mannequins.

The ever-excellent Max Miller mentioned these themed flights in a recent episode of Tasting History:

the “Italian” costume is a toga? so, not only was it “putting on a foreign costume,” it was a “time travel 2000 years ago costume”?

Actual 1968 Alitalia uniform. At least they got the color correct. In 1969 become green.

My guess would be Barberella.

Togas might have had particular associations for the TWA executives who thought that this was a brilliant idea.
