:joy: Engineering like Boeing?

Not a good picture to illustrate, because this house actually works as intended, I guess. Like in: giving people shelter, by the looks of it for several hundred of years.

I remember when Lewis Hamilton got his first chance at F1 and he was dismissed by the press as only being there to fill a quota.

If anything along those lines has changed, it is that the same press may now consider him to be a worthy F1 driver — but only because he had to be so much better (F1 Driver’s Champion four of the last five years) than everyone else. He’s on his way to beating Schumacher’s record… and I think as he gets closer to that, that’s when the hate will really spout forth.

TIL Black women are 2.5x more likely to die in childbirth after correcting for socioeconic factors, education, insurance, etc. Why is this not a bigger issue?

Same reason why this isn’t.

Remember when Horst Seehofer, Minister of Interior, let it be known that there is no racism in German police?

Personal data of cabaret artist Idil Baydar, who has been exposed to massive abusive and threatening letters from right-wing extremists for months, have been retrieved from a computer of the Hessian police, the Frankfurt public prosecutor’s office told HR, confirming reports in the newspaper “Frankfurter Rundschau”.

Not isolated. Since I posted and commented above, a left politician, Ms. Wissler, also received death threats spiced with personal information drawn from a police database. The city (!) where the access happened has been revealed, however, it seems the police are not able to pinpoint which PC and access credentials were used. (Alternatively, this could be tactical withholding of information. But I doubt that they actually have the info needed in their access log.)

Other reports of threatening letters, which seem credible, are also surfacing.

ETA: I don’t want to hijack a BLM topic, but I hope the comparison helps to give some international context to your struggles with police “culture” in the US.

OMG. That poor desk clerk. I hope she gets better soon.

(And of course, the racist dipshits try to play victim. Just unbelievable.)

Wow. I mean, because the Lincoln Project is supposedly a bunch of conservatives.

Talking about The Lincoln Project, did you see they booted their video editor due to misogynic tweets?

This is racist, ableist bullshit. We’re in the middle of a pandemic, the student has an ILP that the school and judge ignored, and most truancy rules are bullshit overapplied against Black kids to speed them to jail and criminal convictions.

I spent a whole year where I didn’t do a single piece of math homework, and the biggest consequence I suffered was a 10% hit to my grade, because it was worth 10% overall. Homework and deadlines when struggling with timeblindness is wishful thinking.

And don’t @ me with how homework was part of her probation. Only reason that goes in – even not in the face of class disruption and pandemic – is to provide a trap.
